| Elisa Kay Sparks Flamingos at the Mt Kenya Safari Club Fall 2002 --------------------------------------- I made this color reduction woodcut for my dad. The image is taken from a photograph he took of three flamingos, standing at the edge of a small lake on the grounds of the Mt. Kenya Safari Club. When I was 13, my dad took a sabbatical in Kenya, working with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Tourism to write various grants. We had run into the actor William Holden at a restaurant in Nairobi and he had invited us to visit the hotel which was then his property. I remember my mother was very excited by the celebrities, but I was struggling to be very blasé. |
